Restate your windshield wiper control system when the intermittent pause stops functioning or high-speed operation cuts out. This 12-volt replacement relay matches factory engineering and directly substitutes part numbers 4B0 955 531A and 72WA401 in designated Volkswagen and Audi chassis.

Direct Platform Compatibility

The component is matched to standard automotive wiper interrupt circuits used across mainstream German platforms. It integrates into the interior fuse and relay distribution panels commonly located behind glovebox access covers or near the steering column insulation pad. Verified mounting applications span Jetta and Golf platforms equipped with conventional wiper motor assemblies, alongside select Audi compact series that share the identical power supply architecture.

Failure Symptoms Addressed

Electrical wear inside older relay coils frequently causes three distinct operational breakdowns. Installing this unit resolves:

Continuous high-speed running that bypasses the dashboard control switch
Complete loss of intermittent wiping intervals
Erratic speed cycling triggered by internal contact arcing or thermal overload

Installation and Circuit Verification

Disconnect the battery ground strap before lifting the faulty unit from its plastic socket. The relay housing routes positive feed current directly to the wiper motor harness while maintaining a separate ground return path. Align the component tabs with the console aperture to prevent strain on the wiring harness, then secure the trim panel to restore cabin airflow seals. Always compare the embossed manufacturer codes on your current unit against 4B0 955 531A and 72WA401 before final fitting to guarantee exact wire routing and electrical load compatibility.
